US Economic Recovery Far From Certain, Financial Experts Say
WASHINGTON—With each passing week, more and more Americans are out of work.
Yet, the media jumps when government, economists, think tanks, and a
number of other experts announce that the economy may be on the upswing
and the U.S. economy is out of the woods.
The media had a
field day when the Organization for Economic Co-operation and
Development’s (OECD) composite leading indicators, which predict
economic improvement or decline, indicated that the United States
experienced an economic uptick in October and is improving over prior
months.
Despite some positive economic indicators, more than
three-quarters of surveyed financial experts disagree and remain gloomy
and downbeat after having been more positive a year ago.
More than half of these financial authorities claimed that they have not
seen any improvement or anything positive, but instead an economy in
which recovery has not materialized.
“The responses collected
in this survey indicate a departure from the rather hopeful outlook
within the finance industry at the end of 2009,” according to a
