Economy
Unemployment Rate Down; Wall Street Hiring Up

The nation's unemployment rate dropped to 10 percent for November 2009, beating analyst estimates that the figure would remain at its 26-year high of 10.2 percent.

Add to that a brighter hiring forecast for 2010 - especially in the financial services industry. One Wall Street CEO went so far as to say his firm expects to go on a "hiring binge" early next year.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the unemployment rate was not the only drop. The number of unemployed persons edged down to 15.4 million in November from 15.7 million in October.

All good news, of course - but not quite good enough for the 11,000 newly unemployed workers - not to mention the millions who were already unemployed. While health care and temporary help services actually added jobs in November, finance professionals are counting on truth behind the news reports of a hiring rebound in the financial services industry.

Recruitment
Secrets to Effective Interviewing

OneWire helps you precisely identify the candidates with the experiences, skills, and qualifications necessary to fill open positions at your firm. However, that is only the beginning. The next step is to ensure the candidates are the right "fit" for your firm.

Determining fit is a critical part of the recruiting cycle and often necessitates several rounds of interviews. But by asking the right questions, you can accurately assess an individual's character and potential fit within your firm.

Human resources expert Dr. John Sullivan recommends moving away from asking binary yes-or-no questions and asking forced-choice questions instead.
