If you haven't logged into your OneWire profile in a while, you definitely should in the next few days. There are new features and enhancements that you'll want to take advantage of so that your profile is updated and ready to be matched to a great opportunity.
1. When you first log in, you'll notice that a light box flies in. This box explains that there is a new networking tool on OneWire and that you'll have to set your privacy settings according to whom you'd like to be able to contact you. You can set different preferences for students, alumni, and Career Services Offices. Expanding your network is a great way to manage your career, so you'll want to think carefully about how strictly you set your privacy preferences.
2."New! Networking" Tab. You'll notice that the networking tab at the top right corner of your dashboard is highlighted. Use this tab to access the networking tool. You can only network with students and alumni from your school. You can search by a range of criteria, from education to experience, and then request to see someone's profile or send someone a message to begin networking. If you aren't able to network, it is because your school is not partnered with OneWire. Be sure to request that your school become a partner so that you can benefit from OneWire's new tools.
3. You can now enhance the "Education" section of your profile to make it more comprehensive. You can add any scholarships that you received or clubs in which you participated. You can also include your Study Abroad experiences. For students and recent graduates, study abroad programs tend to take large part in the course of their education, so it's important to fill out this section with all relevant information. It not only provides a better representation of your overall education, but also provides some more personal information about yourself.
4. You can also include your High School on your profile. This may not seem incredibly important at first, especially for those who are long out of college, let alone High School. But, your High School and its location can often be a point that you'll have in common with a hiring manager. If they are not personally from the city in which you went to high school, they probably know someone who is. Chances are that even if they don't know anyone from your home town, they will be interested to know that extra bit about your background.
5. You can upload more documents, now, than just your resume or, if you're more experienced, a deal sheet. You can include the following items in your profile: a Letter of Recommendation, Transcript, Thesis, and Personal Statement.
These new profile features are aimed to help students create profiles that contain highly relevant information, which means a more robust "Education" section to make up for an "Experience" section that may not be very lengthy upon graduation. When you take the time to apply these news features to your personal profile, you'll see how much more detailed it becomes. You can transform your profile into a much more informative representation of yourself just by adding these few, new details. Use the new features to further distinguish yourself from your peers and to track your past experiences and work towards future goals.
