Today, the newest OneWire press release hit the Marketwire. The article covers a recent survey conducted by OneWire of colleges and universities across the US. The survey gathered opinions from Career Services Offices on when the job market will begin to look more positive for graduating seniors. Two thirds of the participating univesities believe that a turn around will occur some time in 2010, hopefully in time for a last-minute, spring recruiting session for graduates of that class.
Most of the universities also attested to the value found in using social networking sites to supplement a job search. Advice from Skiddy von Stade echoed a similar sentiment: "The fact of the matter is that there are jobs available for those who work
hardest to find them, but it's no longer enough to have a degree and send out
some resumes. Recent and soon-to-be grads must use every tool and search
strategy at their disposal to have the best chance at success. Our constantly
growing roster of college and university partners is just one example of the
steps being taken to give students access to more opportunities." Clearly, graduates from the classes of 2009 and 2010 have their work cut out for them. But that's not to say that there's no hope. Firms are actively hiring. Now, it's just a matter of using the right tools.
