According to a survey undertaken by onewire.com, a career and hiring management tool for the finance industry, 74 percent of job-seeking finance professionals are confident that they’ll be employed by end of 2009.
More than half of these job seekers expect the total compensation for their next job to be the same or higher than their most recent position in finance. This job-seeker confidence continues despite soaring unemployment rates and the worst economic downturn in decades.
onewire.com conducted the survey in May amongst job-seeking finance professionals, and says the results suggest an air of optimism in one of the job sectors hit hardest as the economy struggles to get back on track.
Survey respondents noted that the biggest hurdles to landing a job include that nobody is hiring (42%), there is too much competition (31%) or they do not have enough experience (13%). Still, regardless of tough times for these job seekers, an overwhelming 84% of respondents indicated that they would still choose to embark on a career in finance if they were given the opportunity to go back to the beginning and start over. 69% of respondents also noted that they expect the industry’s reputation to improve within the next three years.
Skiddy von Stade, chairman of onewire.com, said:
“This survey echoes much of the same sentiment that we’re beginning to hear from our users. Job seekers in finance know that there is a tough road ahead and while there will certainly be challenges to overcome, they’re confident and excited about their career prospects in this industry. At the same time, we’re beginning to see finance firms start to turn up the dial on hiring and expect that trend to continue.”
onewire.com has recently launched a new ad campaign across TV, radio, print and online to help and encourage job seekers to gain an edge in the increasingly crowded finance employment market.
